Join us in fulfilling the Great Commission:
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)
Exchanged Church does not believe that the ten-percent tithe of the Old Covenant continues under the New Covenant. However, we respect those that read Scripture differently. As we strive for unity of the Church, we will often yield to the Holy Spirit when Scripture is not explicitly clear. So we ask the same of you in this matter. Pray for guidance.
As Paul writes in Second Corinthians, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
2 Corinthians 9:6-11 (NIV)
We also feel strongly that not all of your tithes and/or donations need to go to a church. We encourage each person to pray for guidance and share their many blessings with others in need or those spreading the Gospel, as well as the church. And if you cannot give financially, please bless the Kingdom through service.
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
– 1 Peter 4:10 (NASB 95)
We believe strongly in being good stewards of the blessings the God bestows upon us. Our guiding principals for managing financial resources:
1. Transparency: The church will make public quarterly reports of all financial transactions.
2. Accountability: We will implement checks and balances to ensure funds are spent properly and with a purpose related to mission.
3. Focus: We will focus on building of the Kingdom of God. We will not have property, buildings, light shows or bands.
4. Humility: Our goal is to have no full-time staff paid for by church funds. If we are required to hire staff, we will keep compensation below two times the current federal poverty level. We don’t want individuals “getting rich” off the sacrificial donations of others.
5. Conduit for Sharing: Local Gatherings will be encouraged to keep funds local and use those tithes / dontations to support members in need and local charities. Funds given to the church at large will offset professional costs (legal, technology, etc.) and the development of new training resources.
6. Culture: We will avoid doing business with companies or organizations that are openly hostile to Christian beliefs. This may cost us slightly more, but partnering with other Christians will receive a higher priority.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV)
We appreciate your consideration and generosity.
